Yes, local community engagement plays a crucial role in boosting women's representation in tech. During my time in Africa, I initiated a project called Project Start Young in Tech, which focused on raising awareness, educating, mentoring, and empowering young people , particularly young girls from underprivileged backgrounds, with foundational technology skills. In the course of this initiative, I observed that many young girls lacked exposure to career opportunities in tech. However, with targeted outreach and engagement, creating inclusive learning environments, providing mentorship, and fostering early interest, several girls became interested in pursuing careers in tech. These grassroots efforts not only bridge the gender gap in tech but also equip women with the necessary skills, inspire confidence and ambition and ultimately contributes to a more diverse and equitable tech industry.
