Three Critical Questions to Kick start Your Personal Branding Journey
Who are you? What is your expert field? What do you want to achieve? These are three fundamental questions you need to answer to understand where to start. Observation has taught me that answering these questions honestly is very crucial. So, consider these reflections, exploring them in your mind, and making honest assessments.
Effective Tools for Personal Branding and PR
Your toolbox should include a myriad of strategies, encompassing social networks, traditional media and blogs, conferences, and networking, contests and communities, and leveraging the power of word-of-mouth.
Social Networks
- Consistency is key: Start with a plan. Deciding on how often you'll write posts or take pictures will help you keep things organized. It's advisable to start with one or two posts per week.
- Originality is the queen: Your online audience is tired of recycled content from the internet. It's time to switch things up. Give them exciting stories about your business, events you've attended, and practical advice.
Conferences & Networking
- Participation: Speaking at relevant events or even being a casual attendee puts your brand in front of others.
- Networking: Engage with professionals, hand out business cards, and establish new connections. Try and attend at least one or two events monthly to keep your network alive.
Word of Mouth
- Tell Your Story: Revitalize your network with fresh updates about your professional activities. Sometimes, those from your past don't know your current professional status. Remind them!
Blogs & Traditional Media
- Content Creation: It might take some time for prominent blogs and media outlets to write about you- typically about one year. However, during this time, you'll grow to understand the kind of content these platforms desire and how best to communicate with journalists.
Don't quit if success isn't instantaneous; most brands need consistency and time to achieve their branding and PR goals. Allocate at least two hours daily to work on your personal brand or PR for your company. In time you'll start to observe the fruits of your PR and branding efforts!

Hi, everyone. I am really glad to see and to feel all of you here today. Uh My name is Lara and I have been involved in public relations for about 15 years already.Usually I work with corporations, banks, uh it companies and tech start ups and also I have my own pr agency. So I'm a businesswoman and I know the problems that businesses face every day. So I'm here to help you to make the first steps in your personal branding and pr for your company. First of all, I'll ask you to answer 33 questions. Not here. Not now, maybe late in your mind uh to understand what to do and then we can go through the tools that can be useful for you and your company. At the end of my talk, I'll offer you the full checklist uh for the first steps and if you'd like to get it, just mail me and I'll send it to you without any applications. So let's start with questions. These are three questions. Who are you from the very beginning? You should decide whenever you're an expert that found a tech developer or someone else Right.
Uh It's great if you have a lot of fields of interest and fields where you can call yourself an expert, but it's better to highlight and one or two significant points. Uh The second question is, what is your expert field? Let's imagine that you're a businesswoman, businessman.
What are you doing? What are professional interests? Maybe you are the best control freak. Uh Maybe you can read with great ideas, business ideas. maybe you are great in managing uh financial flows or bright expert in Blockchain. Um write down from 5 to 10 or maybe even 15 arrays and which you are good or even best, all the best. Just do it. The third question is what do you want to achieve? For sure? We want to skyrocket your reputation. It's obvious. But really, what do we want to let everyone know you as an expert uh to get a lot of money for your performance at the conferences or to attract a lot of money for a web conference or attract investments in your start up uh or to be had in dream by dream company, it's possible as well.
So the most important thing is to answer this question honestly, it is very important. So again, um your task answering these questions is to answer honestly just to recap these questions are we are, what is the expert field? Why do you want that cheap? OK. Let's move on the tools. Uh Yes, Ratey. Let me, show you my slide, your strategy should include social networks, traditional media and blogs, conferences, and networking uh contest and communities and word of mouth. Uh I don't have much time to tell you all about these tools.
So I think I'll give you just a few tips on the most important and on that full checklist, I sent you later, you'll find more information if you want it, of course. Um So let's start from the social networks. Um It seems that everything is clear, isn't it? I think yes. Uh As one famous Willian Bibi Sherlock said, no rush, don't post a lot of content. Um Or otherwise you get exhausted very, very fast and you get it uh start with the plan. Um Decide how often do you want to write, to make photos to take pictures of something? Uh start with 12 posts per day uh per week, sorry, per day. No, so too much uh don't post that kind of useful content. Um Then you rewrite from the internet. Everyone is sick of it. Um Exciting stories about your business. Um Your uh events you have ever visited. Uh advice requests attract a lot more people. The second is conferences and networking. Of course, if you are here, you already know that the power of this uh tool or that kind of events. Uh So how to use it speak if it's possible at relevant events, um give your business card to speakers meet new professionals and um restore old social network. Um You should have a plan to attend events for every six months and at least one or two events per month should be visited for you. Um More of them uh set yourself a good diet.
For example, I should collect 1550 business cards at this event, which in one event, uh it will force you to communicate easily with strangers and then you can send me follow up email or message on linkedin on everywhere. Uh And then they will remember you the next time or maybe this time or may maybe sometimes, maybe not. But I hope so. Um Word of mouth, just tell about yourself. I assure your friends or your old friends or former colleagues uh know about your professional activity. Um Frequently your old friends um don't know where you disappeared. Five years ago, you started your own business and you didn't have time to talk and you didn't have time to uh post on social media. It's ok. But now tell everyone who you are, what you're focusing on. Just that. Just tell about yourself. Simple me and blocks. It's the most interesting and the most difficult part. Uh Clients always ask me this question. When will folks write about us? Uh The answer is about one year later. Uh By that time, you'll understand that content is the most desirable for every kind of media, how to communicate with journalists. What topics to offer and what Forbes. Forbes will write about you and your deal is just to begin how to begin, make a list of media that write on your problems and your area of interest. Um read all the articles on these topics for the last six months.
Do some research about authors and speakers, right? Simple topics, advantages of import substitution in it is not a topic but to hide how to implement with the dynamic is a great topic. Be I mean be more concrete, try to get right format for for medium, for concrete medium. Um make a short call later and write who you are or why are writing? Suggest yourself as a speaker, attach a few topics. Uh Important thing. Don't send the same topics to all media at once. Uh Wait for an for an answer or wait just 34 days only after that repeat the request with good work, you will get the publication in the first month. Yeah, it will be easy for you. Oh, it's invariable. You might say I cannot do this and the main thing you don't have to uh you can choose just one tool, one tiny small thing you can start just with, with one account on social media and your main goal is not to quit. After that, you will get result and you will feel more, feel more encouraged and inspired and then you continue with all these tools. Um Miss questions, I am usually asked uh how long does it take um plan to devote two hours per day to work with your personal brand or with pr for your company as well? Um On whole day per week, then everything will be faster.
But this plan is for 13 months. Uh How much does it cost if you do it by yourself? It costs nothing just uh think about event tickets, about photoshoots, about uh pictures from stocks and it will be a budget if you would like to work with agencies. It depends. So it depends on a lot of things. Uh When will I become a star in my field? Uh I of course, I understand it's a joke and no, nobody or maybe somebody wants to be a star. Uh But uh depending on your tools and intensity, the target group, um you know something about you mm in six months um one year later and why the group will know about you. Not, so not just your professional network. Um The main thing is not to quit. So remember again, these five tools, social networks, traditional media and blogs, conferences and networking contest. Uh It is extra task and I don't have time to uh give um more tips about this contest and communities. It's a real great uh part of uh public relations. And these tools I performed are good for students as well. You can start with your social networks and find friends in your area of interest and add them and then send a request like uh I'm a student, I'm interested in that kind of um information. And if you know who can help me, let me know and usually students are lovely and everybody likes them. Uh at least here in Europe, uh and they never refuse to help. So just ask for help.
