SUSE’s Engineering & Innovation (E&I) oversees the technology innovation, and product and solution development and delivery of SUSE’s global portfolio, built within various open source projects and communities. 

What you’ll do 

The ideal candidate has actively developed software for Linux projects, has integrated that software into Linux distributions and is familiar with common open source development methodologies (ie. pull requests, peer reviews, and developing in public repositories with other community members). 

In your role as Software Engineer, you will work within in a team of specialists that delivers solutions across individual products in the context of the Cloud Solutions department. You will interface with Project Managers, Product Managers, Quality Assurance and with technology architects and other experts across department boundaries. Your task will be to become subject matter expert in your area of expertise to deliver enterprise-ready Linux products. You will develop code, ensure quality and testing is in place and act on errors from the CI. You will work interactively with upstream communities to enhance, extend and improve open source software projects. You’ll be point of contact for engineers seeking expertise in resolving customer reported issues, and respond to bug reports for code you’re responsible for.

What you’ll bring 

• At least 4 years’ experience in software engineering 
• Expertise and hands-on experience with SELinux, be able to create policies from scratch as well as to understand policies written by others 
• Good understanding of access controls (DAC/MAC) 
• Proficiency and hands-on experience with Shell, Python, Go, or other programming/scripting languages 
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication in English 
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills  
• Passion for contributing to a safe, diverse, and inclusive culture 
• Openness to learn something new, continuously improve, and a strong desire to build great things 

Bonus Points for 

• Experience in Linux system hardening 
• Experience with open source development 
• Experience working within a distributed team
