The Role

Bitly is looking for a Senior Front End Engineer to develop, improve, and enrich our platform and user experience. You will be focused primarily on adding to and improving our feature set while contributing to ongoing efforts around codebase modernization. 


As a senior engineer, your role will also involve higher-level planning for quarterly commitments, front end systems designs, and breaking down projects in stories.
 
You will work closely with the Product and Design teams to plan and build new features and solve real-world problems for our users. Your team will most likely be named after an animal.

What You'll Do

  • Lead technical planning for larger front end initiatives including an iterative redesign of our application’s user experience
  • Actively engage in mentorship via code reviews, pair programming, architectural discussions, and general feedback to grow others on your team
  • Create, manage, and improve our web application using a variety of technologies, including React and Typescript
  • Help to set standards as we modernize our systems and user experiences
  • Draw from previous engineering at-scale experience to influence and steer improvements within our distributed engineering organization
  • Continuously collaborate with a diverse organization of value-driven individuals to understand the goals, needs, and priorities of our users
  • Turn your understanding of our systems into thoughtful, well-tested, and scalable solutions easily managed by your fellow engineers

Who You Are

  • You have a thorough understanding of front end systems and implementation
  • You work effectively within a team and are effective at leading team discussions
  • You display an understanding of JS fundamentals and are confident with a modern, component-based UI framework
  • You can design and implement a solution in collaboration with product, design, and other engineers
  • You embrace feedback as an active participant in your own growth and take full ownership in your work
  • You are comfortable giving feedback to other engineers
  • You are familiar with relevant tools and technologies and have the drive to stay up-to-date with ongoing changes and advancements
  • You’re familiar with common product and design life cycles and can effectively collaborate across disciplines (engineering, design, product)
  • You clearly communicate technical concepts and ideas to other engineers and other parts of the organization
  • You care about the quality of the code you write and strive to leave things better than you found them
  • You take the initiative in addressing issues or seeking support from fellow team members
  • You have experience with and are a proponent of automated testing
  • You have experience using a flavor of version control—we use git and Github to collaborate and manage our work
