Beyond Recognition Addressing Structural Barriers in Technology

Achievements in the form of academic excellence awards in STEM are important for visibility and motivation for women in technology. However, they do little to address the structural barriers that perpetuate the gender gap. True progress in closing this gap requires a shift towards more substantial initiatives, such as policies that promote gender diversity in hiring and leadership, support systems for women in STEM careers, and education reforms that encourage female participation from a young age.
