Break into Tech: Insights from Silicon Valley Women Executives

From speaker Alexandra Navarro:

As a Latin-American woman in tech, and as the former chief of staff for the national nonprofit Latinas in Tech, I have consistently noticed how few Latinas advance to authority positions in their careers. In fact, a recent Latinas in Tech annual report suggested that even though many Latinas in their organization held academic degrees with years of experience, only 3% of those surveyed were in executive roles, while 56% were still working entry-level jobs. This statistic needs to change.

In 2021, I took on the executive challenge… read more

The only problem? Psychologists estimate that 75% of people are afraid of public speaking, and you can imagine how high that percentage goes when you’re also making up everything on the spot. The vast majority of people will never take… read more

The Wisdom of Entering a Crowded Market

There is a tendency in startups to target unserved markets or areas with revolutionary approaches. Henry Ford, afterall, didn't build a better buggy, he built a car. Having said that, crowded markets have demonstrated demand and crafting the right feature set can distinguish you in ways that align with current buying patterns - thereby accelerating product market fit.

This talk will discuss our approach to building yet another storage startup and how we thought about the paradox of the crowded market.

From Theory to Practice. Building a Skills Taxonomy for Software Engineering Teams.

Companies are becoming flatter, more team and project-oriented, and more focused on people growth. The formal relationship between the “employee“ and the “job role” is weakening. The formal match between the two is often changing, including the skills needed in software engineering. They seem to be changing every few months and the adoption of tech to help you with that is imperative. This talk is about how to put the theory about skills taxonomy into practice for your software engineering teams so that it increases performance, makes your customers happier, and helps your people take… read more

Making it as an immigrant woman leader in tech

This included getting comfortable with self-advocacy, fighting impostor syndrome, and breaking the biases & stereotypes to build an authenticity in leading my teams. In this talk, I would like to share what I learnt through this journey and how multiple cultures have helped shape my career graph.
