Vivian Shen graduated from Stanford University with a BS in Computer Science and went on to be a Software Engineer at Google, Consultant at McKinsey + Company, and Director of Product at Operation.
In 2017, Shen founded Juni Learning, an online education platform for K-12, to be the educational opportunity she wished she had growing up. As a kid, Vivian had an interest in entrepreneurship, nonprofits, and coding - many of which were not courses that her school offered. Through Juni Learning, Vivian is on a mission to provide students access to 1:1 teaching to ignite a passion for learning among all students – regardless of their interests and learning styles.
Especially for the WomenTech Network, Vivian agreed to give an interview and share her story.

Congratulations on winning a WomenTech Network Global Technology Leadership Award! How did it feel when you found out you had won?
I was overjoyed to hear that I was being awarded the WomenTech Network Global Technology Leadership award! It’s an honor to be recognized alongside such incredible women in tech, and I’m thrilled to see what we accomplish this year together.
Tell us about your background, journey in tech, and what inspired you to develop your career in this direction.
I was raised in a family of educators, so a deep love and admiration for education have always been a part of my DNA. Throughout my own learning journey, I had dreams of being an entrepreneur. This dream started when my burning desire to become a master coder couldn’t be realized through my traditional school courses. As I continued to grow up, I realized that many traditional school environments don’t provide students with the opportunities and access to dive into areas of passion or learn about subjects within rising industries. I founded Juni Learning to bridge this gap and to provide kids with the best education experience to learn, grow their skills, and ultimately, prepare them for the real world.
Any advice you would like to give to girls in STEM on pursuing their dreams?
For young girls who are interested in exploring STEM, I encourage you to be bold and confident in your journey – know that you are capable of becoming incredible leaders in this industry, and the world. Work hard, stay curious, and don’t accept the status quo. There will come a time when the next generation of girls looks up to you as someone who taught them, inspired them, and helped pave the way for their success in STEM.
