As academic leaders strive to fulfill their missions and support everyone involved—students, faculty, and staff—the need for change on how we hire for top roles is clear. Instead of just trying to diversify candidate pools as an afterthought or relying on luck, we should take a more thoughtful, long-term approach. For example, implementing mentorship programs to nurture diverse talent from within our institutions or establishing partnerships with organizations that specialize in cultivating diverse leadership pipelines.
