The beauty of data analyst
Welcome to the World of Data Analysis
Welcome to our Romantic Network 2021! Today, I am thrilled to delve into the captivating world of data analysis.
Whether you realized it or not, you've likely seen some form of data representation in your school or work life. Tables, charts, graphically represented data - all of these came together to provide valuable insights, though their origins may remain a mystery to most. That's where I come in.
Hello, I'm Ahmad Pao N, the dedicated data analyst at Two Science, Nigeria, a GDG Coors, and WTM ambassador for Limo State. I also serve as an ambassador for the Women Tech Network. I invite you to connect with me on LinkedIn and Twitter if you so wish.
Who is a Data Analyst?
So, you might ask, who exactly is a data analyst? As a data analyst, I work diligently to decipher raw data that might initially seem incoherent. With the right set of skills, I've been able to use my expertise to assist businesses in understanding their data, helping them grow and stay competitive in the market.
A data analyst's work involves providing new insights using graphics, theories and strategic tools. Clear, effective data analysis can even alter the course of a company's growth irrevocably. As companies expand, they often realize that much of their stored data is irrelevant or inefficient; this is where data analysis becomes crucial.
The Role and Skills of a Data Analyst
Data analysts come into play when businesses need to understand what their data represents. For instance, consider a company that sells merchandise online. As a data analyst, I would analyze the purchasing trends from women in different locations, and this analysis would inform the company’s future action plans – whether to send a particular product to Nigeria, the UK, or India.
To be a successful data analyst, both now and in the future, you need:
- Analytical skills and the ability to think critically
- The ability to visualize data
- A firm understanding of statistics and mathematics
- Organizational skills
- Effective communication skills
- The ability to make informed decisions based on your analysis
- A working knowledge of AZZ, SQO, and programming languages like Python or R
- The ability to work with data analysis tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or SPS S.
Demonstrating the Power of Data Analysis
The raw data from a company may not make sense to someone without the necessary skills. Let's look at a data set I retrieved online regarding BPD cases in a certain country. To an uninformed observer, this may look like an incoherent jumble of information. But as a data analyst, I was able to decipher this data using PT Public. The outcome was a coherent, organized representation of the number of incidents, the weapons used, and a map indicating the locations of the crimes.
Scope of Work for a Data Analyst
Data analysts can find work in a variety of fields, such as:
- Business intelligence
- Data assurance
- Data quality
- Finance
- Higher education
- Marketing and sales
In the business world, data analysts face challenging decisions daily about what information is useful and where to allocate a company's resources. They work as part of a team and must understand how each piece of data contributes to the bigger picture. Scrutiny, clear communication, and organization are all crucial skills in this role.
In conclusion, a data analyst is vital to the organizational structure of today's companies. The work of a data analyst is to demystify complex data for stakeholders, ensuring the betterment of the company's operations.
I hope this article serves as a starting point for all interested in this rewarding career. Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out via LinkedIn or Twitter. Thank you and have a great day!

With everyone. Welcome to Romantic Network 2021. Um I'm happy to be um working us on the beauty of data analyst. Most of you have seen um some graphical representation of works and events and pictorial presentation of um some works or that, that we don't know up and how those graphics actually came in play or we know that we saw it and it's making sense. So we go, we go, go on with it. So and even while we are in school that and most of us will be like, OK, that, that's all right. Um That's actually I'm not attend that um with you, you all you know that I also have been exposed to graphics throughout your school career, but I bet you no less about the content of those graphics. Hello, I'm Ahmad Pao N, the COFA Atli supports data analyst at to science, Nigeria. Uh GDG already Coors and WTM um ambassador for Limo State and also um ambassador for Women Tech Network, which is actually the events we are uh into. Let's connect on linkedin and Twitter if you are so rich.
So most of all they asking who is this data analyst um permit you to say that uh a data analyst is someone that have the ability, the capability, the tendency of getting a raw data and actually makes sense from that little um from that raw data that doesn't make sense. So as a data analyst, I have the opportunity to use my skill and I'm extremely interesting career, I have helped businesses to make sense of their data so that they can grow and effectively compete with other companies in the market. My work is full of new insights um use for graphics um theories, sabots um entire company wide strategy that could also change the parts of your company growth forever. So data analysis actually is a critical component in today's world of business as companies grow and expand.
They often find that all the data or information that they are actually so fast stored on the database is actually not that relevant for their existing operation. So at this point, they invite uh at this point, they invite a data analytical data analysis comes into play to help the business understand where that data has been mostly used and what it needs to do to make it even more useful to them. So um my data ana is actually called upon to analyze that data to make sense from that information. They um they got, let's say for instance, they got an information about customers and uh for the customer, let's say a website that sells um um remain wars, they have that of the purchase, yes, from women and from different location. So that analyst will now come out into the system and now analyze uh equally set check. Um which of these groups are mostly both by which particular location. So with that, they will know, OK, let's say this particular, let's send this um this particular products to Nigeria or let's send this particular product to UK or let's send this particular product to India.
So the data has the work of the data, a analyst to make sense of a particular data. And these are the useful tools that you also need and skills that you also need to be a data analyst in this uh in this um in, in that analy this year actually, even in the nearest future, unless there is any change or you where you'll be adding extra um skills to your skills.
These are the basic skills actually, you need to have analytical skill, be a, a critical thinker. Um have the ability to visualize data. You have a good sense of visualization um be good in statistics and mathematics, not really P A statisticians actually, but have a sense of statistics and analysis be organized because you can't actually organize a data if you are not organized as a person. OK, then also you ability to communicate uh for that particular data, you analyze the ability for you to communicate through it to the um stakeholders or to the people and the society or to the actually the business that you're analyzing the data for is actually a plus and also the ability to make decisions.
Yeah, there are, there are situation where you analyze some of some data but you're unable to ate. OK. Is this the right data to present to the stakeholders or is this the right data to take as my final result? So the ability to make decisions based on the analysis that you got? Um It's actually a plus and also you need to have knowledge, basic knowledge of A ZZ. Um Yeah, most of us once we have, but I, I think that is the normal spreadsheet that we all know. There are, let me tell you, there are lots of analytical tools in A Z that you can make use of. Um you can maybe don't know, have an idea of Python or stars, but the ability of um and I so can get you started as a data analyst also um to go forward to enhance your, your career and your skill more. We also need to get um sqo have a knowledge of sp possible. We'll be working more with database. So you need to know how to query your database to get the necessary data or information that you need to. Um So we define the analysis that you are performing on that particular organizational data. So also you need your programming programming language skill and kind of a Python scale or an R scale.
So you also need to know this um some frameworks or packages like Tableau Power B I. Uh it's not a model, you know, but you can know T or you can know Power B I because these are tools that you also need to enhance the success uh for you to be able to analyze your data effectively and professionally. Also an idea of some or SPS S uh is also a plus for you because it's a statistical um analytic software that you also need to enhance your analytical skills um as a data analyst. So let's look at this data set. I got this data set online uh uh for a BD PM BPD part bit cases um in a country. So these are the information I'm unable to actually get a screenshot of all of them because uh I can't like get the screenshots I get because um the data contain a record of um 220,001 for one record. So I can't get a screenshot. So I just took the last part of the screenshots. This is the data set. It doesn't make sense.
Like if you give this thing to maybe a layman, someone that doesn't know things about that or some, someone that's data phobia that may not be able to make sense out of this thing. So it's the work of a data analyst to come up? Ok. Oh, is this actual words? Uh this person is actually referring to I analyze this uh, data, this thing, this um, record through PT public. So this is actually the outcome of this data set. Uh where, um, the information where I get with the, I get the high, uh highest number of, of incidents, the total number of incidents and the used weapon and the map of crime committed and use. So this is actually what um the what I'm able to analyze from this particular, from this particular data set. So let's look at um what are the the data analyst area of work? There are different places, you can work as a data analyst, you can work on the business intelligence, you can work as on the data assurance, you can work on data quality, you can work on finance, higher education, marketing and sales. There are, there are lots more places you can work and take home. And I would like to say a data analyst in the business world has to make a challenging decision about what information is variable, what can be used.
And most importantly, we have to allocate companies resources, most data analysis or we can say that scientists, although both of them are different skills scam, but we can use it with a change. Everybody advisory work as part of a team and must understand how the individual states come together to create a single world wid machine that kind of a thing. So they work with numbers and formulas that are created through a complex calculation and techniques. So the ability to pay attention to details communicate well and be highly organized are essential skills for a data analyst. They are not only needed to understand the data, but able to provide their insights and analysis through clear visual and lit and verbal. I need to have those skills to communication. Skill is a plus for you because you cannot analyze data and maybe unable to communicate it to the people. And that data you analyze is actually nothing. And I get I provided, I said something when I was there, I was a data analyst is actually one of the big thing in our society today. And data analyst up as the brain behind the organizational data so that the stakeholders of the firm will be able to understand which data or understand the data and use it for a good purpose of that company.
This session will serve as much as insight on how to start your journey as a data analyst and some useful tools that you needed. So I'm able and I know that I'm able to explain this data analysis analyst journey and how to go about your career. So permit me to actually call it a day. So thank you. If you have a question, feel free to link up with me um via linkedin uh at ABAJO N or yeah. Um Twitter at a, a bao or? Thank you. Thank you for having me. Have a nice day. Bye.
