Session: Why small radar satellites are critical for rapid climate response
Climate change has immediate and observable impacts on Earth. The increase in natural catastrophes and our lack of community and global readiness is apparent. Commercial, small (<150kg) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) constellations will help to decentralise Earth observation through improving natural catastrophe responsiveness & resilience. SAR sensors, with the ability to observe the Earth in ways entirely inaccessible by optical and infrared sensors, present a unique capacity to quantify catastrophic impact and plan for future improvement. In this talk, we will discuss natural catastrophe solution development at ICEYE with high temporal and spatial resolution SAR.Key Takeaways

Bio
Shay got her Ph.D in Astronomy from UT Austin. After, she worked at Johns Hopkins University APL on spacecraft development. She joined the DC satellite startup OmniEarth in 2014. Upon the company's acquisition, she joined EagleView as Director of ML/AI. Today, she is the VP of Analytics for Finnish satellite company ICEYE.
