Session: AI Governance: Balancing Innovation and Responsibility in the Age of Dual-Use Technology
As artificial intelligence continues to revolutionise industries, its potential to drive innovation and improve human lives is undeniable. From enhancing healthcare and financial security to optimising business operations, AI has become a powerful tool for progress. However, the same technology that fuels these advancements can also be exploited by bad actors, threatening privacy, security, and even democracy. Deepfakes, autonomous cyberattacks, and algorithmic manipulation illustrate AI’s dual-use nature, where the benefits to society must be weighed against the risks of misuse.
This talk explores the urgent need for AI governance, a framework that ensures ethical, secure, and transparent AI deployment. I will highlight key challenges, including bias, accountability, regulatory gaps, and adversarial threats, alongside practical strategies for mitigating risks. The future of AI is not just about innovation; it is about governing AI wisely to ensure it remains a force for good
