Session: When “Don’t Be Evil” Isn’t Good Enough: A Framework to Evaluate Your Next Opportunity in Social Impact Technology

I spent 2+ years exploring the intersection of social impact and technology, which led me to co-found CoProcure. I've written down some thoughts and learnings from that time. I hope this can help others who are curious about getting into something more mission-oriented.

Key Takeaways

  • Working in social impact tech has unique challenges, but you can have massive impact at scale with the rapid iterative style of a tech startup. Use these 4 questions to evaluate opportunities:
  • Is the mission a true north star?
  • Is it really a technology problem?
  • How is it funded?
  • Is it great place to work?

Bio

Alicia is a co-founder at CoProcure, a marketplace for local government purchasing ("amplifying the impact of taxpayer dollars"). She got into computer programming in college and has worked on everything from low-level networking and drivers to desktop infrastructure to web and data products. She was an early engineer at Dropbox, where her projects included diversity and the intern program. At the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, she worked on economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, and education. Outside of work, Alicia likes to read, craft, golf, and hang out with her kids.
