Session: Diving into the Deep End
Career advancement comes in many forms, from taking on more responsibility in your current role and growing incrementally, to taking on entirely new opportunities. Jumping into a career, role, or project that is new or outside of your expertise can be both daunting and incredibly rewarding at the same time. This session will provide a framework for when to consider taking the leap in your career, how to identify these opportunities, and how to find the courage to make these exciting changes in order to build a meaningful career. Attendees will walk away with new perspectives, rituals, and practical exercises that will allow them to embrace feelings of uncertainty and help guide them through career transitions.
Bio
Alice is Engineering Manager at Sensible Weather, acting as a hands-on engineer, frontline manager, and head of engineering. After majoring in Computer Science at Princeton she began her career at Box, starting out working on the admin console and eventually shifting to the infrastructure monitoring team. She later joined LightStep as the 7th employee. Throughout her engineering career, Alice has actively contributed to the women in tech communities at each company, previously serving as President of Box’s Women In Technology (WIT) group and as a founding member of the Ladies of LightStep (LOL). Currently, she is actively working to support the women at Sensible, placing emphasis on hiring for diversity and building an inclusive workplace culture.
