Poorva Rane Bio
Poorva Rane is a Senior Research Engineer at Google DeepMind, specializing in the development of cutting-edge image and video generation models in the Generative Media team. She has played a pivotal role in launching some of Google’s most advanced GenAI models, including Phenaki, Imagen 3, and Veo, which are now integrated into products like YouTube DreamScreen, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Google ImageFX, transforming content creation for businesses and creative professionals worldwide.
Beyond her technical contributions, Poorva is actively engaged in mentoring junior researchers and fostering cross-functional collaboration within her teams. She is deeply committed to supporting the next generation of AI leaders, offering guidance and sharing her expertise through internal programs and industry forums. Poorva also participates in community engagement initiatives, contributing to the broader AI and tech community through various knowledge-sharing events.
Prior to DeepMind, she worked at Apple in the Information Intelligence group, driving key innovations in Apple Search in Spotlight, Safari and Visual Lookup. She holds a Master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University’s Language Technologies Institute, where she was advised by Prof. Taylor Berg-Kirkpatrick and Prof. Jean Oh. In 2016 she interned at Nvidia, leveraging advanced language models for sentiment analysis.
