Purpose of the Role  

The Nature Portfolio Publishing Strategy team is responsible for the development of the Nature portfolios titles strategy to meet both commercial and editorial goals alongside managing the transition of the hybrid titles to an open access business model.

The Associate Publishing Strategy Manager role is responsible for supporting day to day publishing activities across the portfolio. This includes performance monitoring and reporting, data analysis, indexing and commissioning support for new launch journals and policy management and implementation. 

Responsibilities:

Publishing Management and support                              

  • Support publishing team goals by collating, analysing and maintaining key performance indicator (KPI) data and spreadsheets as required.

  • Input data for monthly portfolio review meetings (OA 360 and Business Review Meeting) templates 

  • Support new launch proposals carrying out data analysis, including trend and competitor data, as required.

  • Prepare documentation to support the indexing of journals within Web of Science, Pubmed.

  • Support publishing policy review process, implementation and communications across Nature Portfolio.

  • Assist with content acquisition (commissioning) working closely with the Head of Publishing, liaising with editors and authors as needed.

  • Support the management of Nature Portfolio consortia projects including liaising with editorial, and payment processes.

  • Support the team with ad-hoc tasks and requests as needed.

  • Collaborate on cross-team projects with editorial, production, institutional sales, marketing and editorial performance teams. 

  • Participate and contribute to the non-financial KPI budget process

Engagement and representation 

  • Engage with other departments across the Nature Portfolio and the wider Journals group.

  • Support and active participation in team activities – i.e. meetings, monthly reports

  • Contribute to the Nature Journals Publishing Strategy team development by initiating and supporting development activities (ie training initiatives, sharing knowledge and insights, improving working practices)

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • University degree

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work across teams and deliver to tight timeframes.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, changing and demanding environment.  

  • Strong analytical skills including the use of Excel for data manipulation and analysis.

  • Understanding and experience of using bibliometric resources. 

  • Enthusiasm and passion for excellence in science. 

Desirable

  • Publishing experience

  • Knowledge of journal publishing

  • Scientific background

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $74,000 - 82,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
