POSITION SUMMARY

Adventist Health’s Revenue Cycle Operations are jointly operated by Huron Healthcare and Adventist Health. Huron manages the operations and provides the Revenue Cycle leadership (managers and above are employed by Huron), while Revenue Cycle associates are employed by Adventist. Market leaders and hospital, clinic, and physician leadership across Adventist’s 21 hospitals and 300+ clinics, are key stakeholders for the Revenue Cycle Operations and critical factors to ongoing Revenue Cycle success.

The HIM System Regulatory Sr Director leads HIM functions in complex mix of high-volume, high-revenue, and/or multi-services settings. Manage and oversee an extensive span of control of HIM operations. Provide input and direction to strategic plan and goals to meet imperatives. Develop departmental policies, procedures, and protocols in alignment with Joint Commission, federal, and state guidelines. Provide input for process design and other implementation and solution activities. Prepare budgets and maintain and manage cost control. Collaborate with departments and medical staff to ensure strategic alignment and objective achievement. Evaluate and interpret HIM variances and trends to strategically align HIM operations. Provides vision, leadership and operational oversight for area of responsibility within a specific area.
Seek to understand disagreements, ensure all perspectives are heard and facilitate a plan for resolution.

Delegate the work appropriately, provide clear expectations and follow up to ensure progress and overcome roadblocks. Identify associates and team priorities based on business direction and adjust when needed. Lead by example and share knowledge and experiences with associates and team. Create a respectful work environment where you advocate for your team, create accountability and recognize their accomplishments. Provide timely feedback to encourage success, ensure accountability, and connect opportunities for your associates’ development. Identify the right talent to achieve the desired results. Promote and build a diverse cohesive team to accomplish objectives and align associates' skills to fill gaps.

Qualifications

  • This position is responsible for HIM regulatory compliance system-wide, including:
  • Regulatory Activities:
    • Develop systemwide Medical Record Completeness review process and implement, to be approved by HIM Governance Committee.
    • Develop standard Mock Survey Tool, to be approved by HIM Governance Committee.
    • Perform mock regulatory surveys to assure compliance with requirements. Will work closely with the Adventist Health system regulatory/accreditation resource.
    • A minimum of one site to be surveyed per month.
    • Findings will be reported out to site HIM leaders, along with recommendations for improvement. Expectation is for this person to work with the site HIM director to assure compliance.
    • This role will involve executive presence, including engagement with the following site leaders:
      • Medical staff (providers and department leaders).
      • Executives (CMO, CFO, quality, accreditation, HIM, etc.).
  • Partnering with: Data Integrity Team, Business Intelligence Team, HIM System Analysis Team, RAC Audit Team, Transcription Team & Council, Chair of Deficiency Management Council, Chair of EHR Optimization Council (major player with EPIC)
  • Interim Director activities (as needed)
  • Guides and directs subordinate supervisors/managers on HIM team
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, legislative changes, and emerging technologies related to health information management, advising on potential implications and opportunities
  • Develops and implements policy and procedure recommendations to meet the needs of the Huron and Hospital System and its patients.
  • Oversees preparation of the budget for areas of responsibility and participates in the preparation of the annual Huron and Hospital System budget.
  • Prepares annual statement of goals and objectives in collaboration with subordinates.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, local government, and private industry mandates.
  • Ensures staff are aware and compliant with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, etc.
  • Analyzes and identifies HIM service needs to determine appropriate action and make recommendations for problem resolution or procedural changes if appropriate.
  • Identifies issues, risks, barriers and opportunities for improvement related to set responsibility area
  • Analyzes, interprets, and summarizes pertinent revenue cycle data components, and monitor performance against Key Performance Indicators.
  • Develops professional and technical skill set in subordinate staff and develop ongoing training and education materials for staff and patient education.
  • Supervises, trains, develops and motivates subordinate staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.

REQURIED SKILLS:

  • Effective and efficient organization and planning skills with the proven ability to manage complex multi-workstream performance improvement projects or multiple concurrent client engagements, while delegating and overseeing the work of junior team members
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills required to synthesize complex data sets and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and trends to implement recommendations resulting in measurable performance improvement and successful organizational change
  • Impactful and professional written and verbal communication set clear project team direction, develop key deliverables, escalate risks, and influence key stakeholders inclusive of client and internal senior leadership
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and client counterparts to understand business challenges, adapt implementation methodologies and approaches to ensure results align with client’s business objectives
  • Team leadership experience including building talent, training, supervising, coaching/mentoring, and performance management

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current permanent U.S. work authorization required
  • Direct Supervisory Experience required
  • 10+ years of HIM operations experience, with at least 7 years progressive leadership or senior management role
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory standards related to health information management, including experience with HIPAA and HITECH
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Required certifications: RHIA or RHIT
  • Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Cerner system experience preferred

The estimated salary range for this job is $155,000 - $225,000.  The range represents a good faith estimate of the range that Huron reasonably expects to pay for this job at the time of the job posting. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to specific skills or certifications, years of experience, market changes and required travel.  This job is also eligible to participate in Huron’s annual incentive compensation program, which reflects Huron’s pay for performance philosophy and Huron’s benefit plans which include medical, dental and vision coverage and other wellness programs. The salary range information provided is in accordance with applicable state and local laws regarding salary transparency that are currently in effect and may be implemented in the future.
