Reflecting on My Journey
As a Women in Tech Global Awards 2024 winner, what does this recognition mean to you, and how does it reflect your journey and impact in tech?
The Software Engineering Leader of the Year award is very humbling to me. While I am proud of what I have accomplished in my career, there are days when I doubt myself and imposter syndrome takes over. Studies show that women are more prone to imposter syndrome than men. This award will be a reassurance for me - of my worth and what I bring to the table. But in the bigger scheme of things, I want this recognition to inspire others. I have not had an easy journey getting here, but if I can do it, so can anyone else. I am committed to using this platform to inspire, mentor and advocate for the cause.
Tech Industry's Most Rewarding Aspects
In your experience, what is the most rewarding aspect of working in the tech industry, and how has it influenced your career path?
The most rewarding aspect of working in the tech industry is that there are no limits to innovation. There will never be a day where innovation will not be needed. It is the constant learning and the satisfaction of solving a problem, and then solving the same problem better. It is the challenge that keeps me going!
My Tech Career Milestone
Could you share a defining moment or a key achievement in your tech career that has been particularly impactful or meaningful to you?
A defining moment in my tech career was when I led the digital transformation initiative for Truist (then SunTrust) Mortgage. We were on disjoint systems and brought mortgage and bank/credit cards under the same umbrella – completely transforming the client experience and overhauling our digital landscape. It was a challenging project with high stakes, but it challenged me and pushed me out of my comfort zone. That was also my foray into a leadership role. Seeing the transformation and the impact was one thing, but one of the tangible outcomes of that effort was the improvement of our JD Power rating from #10 to #4.
