Women in tech have long faced numerous barriers to success, particularly when it comes to balancing family life with career aspirations. The tech industry has traditionally been male-dominated, making it difficult for women to advance. However, a recent project by Joanne John, a Council Member at WomenTech Network, an experienced professional with over 15 years of expertise, and a Post Graduate Diploma student at University College Dublin, has identified an opportunity for managers to support high-achieving women in tech to succeed while balancing family life. Using the Design Thinking methodology in collaboration with WomenTech Network, Joanne is exploring ways to empower women in tech to attain C-level positions while maintaining a balanced family life.

    Qualitative Research Findings

    Joanne's project involved conducting qualitative research with 15 women and 8 men from C-level to individual contributor positions, with the goal of understanding their experiences and identifying any recurring themes related to the challenges of balancing family life and career in tech. Through the interviews, a clear and recurring theme emerged: managers need more guidance and support to effectively support women with families. This finding highlights the importance of providing managers with tools and resources to help them create a more supportive and inclusive work culture that caters to the needs of female employees with families.
