Session: Expanding Opportunities in Tech Through the Empowerment of Women

To improve the tech industry, we must help the entire workforce understand exactly what transformation needs to happen to encourage an equitable, and ultimately more creative, workplace—whether the work happens on location, remotely, or in a hybrid model. Smaller steps, like encouraging flexible work options such as encouraging men to leave work early to pick up their children, will help set the stage for bigger steps toward better wellness for women in tech.

Combined with access to better resources, lived experience displayed through storytelling can work toward decreasing the current pay gap between women and men in tech, while encouraging more women speakers to show up in tech-related professional arenas. It is only when people hear the voices and stories of others that they can address social injustice and lack of diversity in the workplace. Adaptability and alignment are key pieces to the tech industry moving forward.

We must establish increasing opportunities for women to be both seen and heard without encouraging professional behavior that leads to burnout. Without this piece, no company can drive retention. None of these changes can gain traction without the addition of outside resources for individuals.

Building continued momentum for women in this industry is only possible if women are given unobstructed paths to gain both experience and skills so that they can create more confidence in their abilities. Relationships are at the core of both increased confidence and professional ability. These paths are critical if we want to create a place where women are able to advance in male-dominant workplaces.

It is our plan to give your attendees encouraging words and actionable steps that will help them create a trust-based environment that assists their own ambitions and will also attract and nurture other women who want to pursue tech as a career.

Key Takeaways

  • Transformation of male-dominant workplaces is key to promote inclusion.
  • Women need both equal pay and opportunities to be heard in order to advance.
  • The tech industry needs adaptability and alignment.
  • Opportunities to gain experience increase confidence in the workplace.
