First Step in any Transformation Journey

Understand the challenge. Your company may face business or technical challenges and this is the key reason for embarking on a transformation journey. It's essential to comprehend your company’s struggles and devise the best solutions that suit your situation, always following an agile approach, while considering short-term and long-term aspects.

Appreciating the Business Opportunities

In the course of a digital transformation journey, your company can tap into numerous business opportunities. Some of the potential benefits include meeting customer expectations, adapting to new technologies faster, lowering maintenance costs, and responding rapidly to market changes.

Navigating the Challenges and Identifying the Solution

In recent work with one of my big accounts, they were faced with a technical challenge. They had to exit a data center by the end of 2023, without interrupting their business. Not only that, they needed to build a new cloud architecture and operating model. Based on this challenge, the solution approach my team and I developed involved building a stable and reliable landing zone using Azure.

Taking a Closer Look at the Implementation Strategy

1. Understanding the challenge: Identifying and understanding the pain points of your company or your client is the first step towards a successful digital transformation journey.
2. Business opportunities: Your goals could vary depending on the type of transformation journey. Such opportunities may include enhanced security, compliance, an increase in innovation, faster delivery times, and significant cost reduction.
3. Approach: Initial focus is to handle lift-and-shift i.e., migrating workloads without making changes due to tight timelines. Later, more customization and modernization are planned for.
4. Key integrated activities and milestone: Plan properly. This involves setting milestones, defining detailed level planning for all phases, and laying out the entire plan for the transformation journey.

Good afternoon and uh good morning everyone. Uh My name is uh Pinky Hatha and uh I'm the account executive at Aar. So I have almost like uh 23 years of experience in the digital technology area.Um And uh I have worked in multiple technologies and it's, it's like it's like my, my passion, right? So today, um I really want to share uh some of the use case that I'm right now currently working with one of my big account and how I'm helping them in their uh cloud transformation journey. So I thought it will be a uh great um you know, a use case for all of you ladies who are interested in this cloud transformation journey where I can share my, you know, um my experience and how I'm approaching this cloud journey. Uh So hopeful, hopefully this will help you out. Uh I hope you all can see my screen. Um So here, here, here are some of the agenda topics um and uh I want to cover, right? Um What for any transformation journey, right? What are the key steps that you need to take uh to make that successful? Right? The first step that I uh usually take and my team takes is basically understand the business uh and uh technical challenge, right?

Um Your, your, your company can have a business challenge or your company can have tonical challenge. Uh That's the reason they always go for this whole transformation journey, right? So understand the challenge what the kind of challenge they're having and then working on the solution, depending on the challenge, work out the solution which suits them the best, right? It can, the solution is more like a more uh I usually take it uh an agile approach, uh like the short term and the long term, right? Um That's how I usually take my solution approach. So, and the third point is basically what are the business opportunities we are doing this uh when they are doing this digital transformation journey, what are the business opportunity that you know, they are, they are getting, right? And uh also what kind of approach you are taking, which is for this uh whole journey that you are helping your client or your company, right? Um And what are the some of the key activities and milestone that you have to uh make sure you uh take care of it before uh and, and plan it out basically so that you are successful in this journey, right?

Making sure that you are finishing everything on time, right? Uh You're you're providing all the deliverables that client needs and, and putting some dates on the milestones, right? Last, but not the least how as a woman, we can participate in uh participate in uh any digital transformation journey.

What are the couple of things that um we have to do on our own? Uh so that we are always, you know, um ahead or we are helping or we are leading this kind of transformation journey. So in, in, in my particular scenario, right? Um my, my my client, right, it can be your your client or your business, right? Um They are having a technical challenge, right? So they are they right now their workloads their their applications, their machine, their storage resides in a data center, right, uh which is like on Prem. Um And uh they have to exit the data center by end of 2023 right? Uh So basically, by end of 2023 they have to migrate everything from that location to someone else without interrupting their, their business, right? Without interrupting their clients, right? And they also have to have a new uh net new cloud capabilities and capacity, which they don't have right now, right? So they need to build a cloud architecture. Um They have to make sure that they are doing the migration properly. They also have to work on their operating model, right? Because they don't have the operating model to support the cloud uh service, right? And also the managed services of their new architecture, right.

So the solution that I am leading with my team is basically uh building a very stable and reliable landing zone of uh asure, right? So my client actually we help them in uh selecting Azure as their um go forward um cloud provider, right? So I'm helping them to uh to build a stable and rattle um um landing zone which will leverage basically all the cloud, all the Azure um architecture as well as like finalizing their um architecture al also as like modernization strategy and plan in in in parallel, right? Since as I told you, they are not in cloud now, they have to make sure that they are ready for cloud once we are migrating their um workloads in cloud, right? So I'm also helping them in defining uh foundational like operating model as well as uh plan out and gear out uh what things they need uh to support cloud going forward, right. So this is this is an overview of the technology challenge that they're having and what kind of solution we are providing it. So to start any digital transformation journey, basically, you have to understand the challenge that your company or the pain points of your company or your client, right? What they're having and how, what kind of solution you have to take to solve the problem.

So in, in, in, in my case, right, so these are the some of the business opportunities that they will gain after this whole transformation, right? Your list can be very right? It depends on what kind of transformation journey you're doing and this list can change, right? But most of the time these are the key uh areas pretty much like our key opportunities that we will try to uh provide some benefit to the client. Because now they're going to a new technology, they are spending money, but definitely they they want some some kind of more uh opportunity or business opportunity or benefits, right? So that they can, that helps them in the long run, right? So in this case, um the few of the business opportunity that my client is is gaining is the security, right? Uh after cloud, uh they will have more robust and uh and flexible, right? Cyber defense security and my client basically, of course, all the big banks. So in that case, security is one of the key area that they want us to focus on and we are making sure that with this cloud migration or with cloud digital transformation, they are not losing anything, right? And also the quality and compliance, right? Um since as I said, they are in with the banking, we have to make sure that they are compliant with the customer as well as federal financial institution, right? Innovation. Um my my client is growing right?

They are making change in their, in their business and so whatever we implement, it has to be um it has that that business model has to be capable of any kind of business growth or enablement they are doing in the future, right? And we will be making sure that we are using all the tools and explorers to rapidly introduce any kind of new technology that they are planning to uh implement in future. So from speed and agility standpoint, um again, since they deal with more mostly banks, we have to make sure that their client are satisfied and uh whatever they are delivering to their customers, they are not losing any kind of, you know, delay in their service or responsiveness, right?

It has to be a seamless transition from one technology to the other technology. And the last but not the least is basically the cost reduction, right? Um So, so they are, they will they have to spend some money in the migration, right? That is like one time cost, but down the line, they will be saving a lot of money in the uh in the operating model, right? So they have to, they don't have to pay for the data center, right? And as you guys know that in in cloud is basically how much you use you have to pay, right? So it will help them, we are trying to reduce their Opex cost also in down the ex uh down this exercise. So, so um there are multiple um approaches, right? Variety of approaches when you go to uh cloud and again, this, this my presentation is uh I just wanted to give you a flavor of a cloud transformation journey, but it can be a different uh different transformation that it can be er p it can be any, any, any technology journey.

So in, in in this cloud journey, basically what we are doing with this client is that since we have a deadline of 2023 we are doing lift and shift right. So our 80% of the workloads that we are moving from. Um the existing on prem to cloud is basically lift and ship. We are not customizing anything because of the time constraint. But there there will be some repla uh or some small core change for 20 person maybe around where basically they have customized their application, right?

So we do have to do some kind of relat and remo along uh the first phase. But as you can see the first phase, we will focus on the lift and shift and down the road, right? When we are done with the migration, then we will start modernizing and you know, deplatform and Refactor, uh their application down the road. But for the short term, we will do lift and shift as as we proceed like in 2023 or 2024 we will, we will add more flavor in the in the model that will give them more business value. So um these are the some of the key integrated activities and milestone, right? Uh and pretty much uh in all my in all my implementation, big big implementation, I try to uh follow the same kind of um methodology and model, right? As you can see, um so I have divided uh into two phases and this is at a very high level, right? With us just to give you girls a flavor uh how the key integrated activities and milestone looks like, right? Um So as you can see the the first phase is basically the current phase which is designing and in the design phase, we have uh three work streams, the product transformation, cloud foundation and operating model.

This these two are basically are the are the key um areas where will be we will be defining and designing their whole cloud foundation, right? How the cloud foundation are architecture will look like uh what are the things that we need and all those stuff, right? And the works in uh three is basically the cloud operating model where basically since as I told you, they are an on prem premise, right? So we have to define a new arc structure, right? What are the processes? What are the technology governance, right? They need to take care of or they need to work on uh once they go into this new model and we will be helping uh Artline to define that whole cloud operating model, right? And next year, basically in 2022 we will be actually starting the migration as well as remediation process. And this is like a multiyear project, right? Uh By 2023 we will be migrating every everything, lift and shift. And after 2024 or starting 2024 we will be doing the more modernization and all those stuff. Um This is how the balance of effort looks like, right, uh near term and the short term, right, as you can, as you can see, um in the near term, we will be focusing only to lay down the entire plan. And this is a very important right?

For any digital transformation journey you're planning is very important. First of all, you have to understand that uh uh problem solution, right? You have, you have to, you have to come up with a solution and then plan it properly. Because if you don't plan your uh this whole journey properly, you will be you will be in a big mess, right? So my, my uh advice to um each one of you, if you guys are doing a big transformation in digital technology, make sure that you lay down a plan very properly, right? As and with with some kind of milestones, right? And again, I'm not sharing at a very high uh I'm sharing at a very high level, but it it it has like detail detail plan. I have done a detailed level planning for all these phases, right? As I can see the first phase is basically transformation planning and readiness, right? This is a very, very key uh phase of the project, right? And then um then my actual migration will uh pilot migration will start, right? Where I will do uh one prototype to make, make sure that whatever solution I have um I have uh you know, established is working fine, right? And then I will do at scale migration and then modernization planning and the product moderation.

So, so um so what is, what is my uh how I have led my career? Right? So I have started my career as a programmer, senior programmatic lead. And all right now I'm I'm managing multiple accounts like oil and gas, medical accounts, right? So my, my two sense is that uh if you ladies are really interested in technology, make sure that you are rapidly evolving, your knowledge, right? And a creating your skills as to the needs of marketplace, right? For example, if you see if you go in my linkedin profile, you will see that I have experienced in multiple technologies, right? Nowadays, I'm working all in Microsoft Space. But until um my, this company, I was working with Azure, right, and the data analytics area. So make sure that you are keeping your skill set up to date, right? As for the need of the marketplace and and and explore, right? Talk to your uh network with people with your skill set, right? Or your area interest, right? Um And then as I said, participate as an advisor speaker, right? Um Make sure that you are uh leading the the the discussion that in your company as a, as a more like a tech rather than as a back seat, right? And again, staying closer to tech also means that you are building a strong knit work of support both in and out of the workplace, right?

Make sure that you're going in like the checking profile of the folks that are more tech savvy if you really want to that in that field and try to build some good network with them, talk to them and try to get some more insight how things are going, right? Or to read some articles, right? So keep your skills up to date. Um That's, that's pretty much I have ladies today and thank you for your time.
