Bloomberg runs on data. Our products are fueled by powerful information. We combine data and context to paint the whole picture for our clients, around the clock – from around the world. In Data, we are responsible for delivering this data, news and analytics through innovative technology - quickly and accurately. We apply problem-solving skills to identify innovative workflow efficiencies, and we implement technology solutions to enhance our systems, products and processes.
Our Team
Using innovative, collaborative, and client focused approaches to data extraction, aggregation, and standardization, the ESG data team is responsible for enhancing ESG content for the Bloomberg Terminal and Enterprise products. This includes company-reported and normalized metrics, industry-specific metrics, proprietary ESG scores, climate and regulatory data. Our ESG data is displayed alongside fundamental data, backed by news for context, and used to power a growing suite of sustainable finance products.
What’s the role?
A Senior Data Management Professional (DMP) is a key role within our organization responsible for redefining and optimizing the metadata our clients rely on. They act as proactive technical leaders by setting the strategy in achieving quality and consistency, and delivering scalable governance across Bloomberg Data. Beyond governing data and being problem solvers, they are expected to transform the responsibilities of the team and scale the impact beyond what's possible today.
The role in the ESG Metadata Management team covers all metadata aspects of Bloomberg ESG data. You are responsible for the data connectivity across the company touching on the governance of entities, relationships, aliases and data fields within the ESG domain. The team is critical to ensuring our ESG data conforms to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) standards. - Update and maintain data implementation configurations and work to align these configurations against taxonomies and classifications
- Develop and maintain documentation related to design, data model and dictionaries
- Create tools and processes to monitor and maintain metadata inventories to ensure they are of high quality, timely and accurate
- Work with counterparts within Data, Product and Engineering to enable implementations that utilize centralized metadata stores and classifications
- Balance the best of technical and product knowledge to craft solutions for customers
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members and contribute to their professional development
You’ll need to have:
- A BA/BS degree or higher in Information and Data Sciences, Accounting, Finance, Economics or Environmental Sciences and Sustainability with focus on technology and data, or equivalent professional work experience
- Familiarity with ESG data and various topics including, but not limited to, GHG Emissions data, ESG Ratings and Scores, and various disclosure frameworks such as the SFDR, EU Taxonomy, ISSB and CSRD
- 4+ years experience using technical skills such as programming, data modeling, and statistical methods to solve problems
- Collaboration skills to work across partner groups through Data, Engineering and Product teams across the globe
- Data design skills for organizing data considering both product need, client usability and engineering objectives
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Project management skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt to tasks accordingly
- Demonstrated ability to drive results, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple priorities and stakeholders
We’d love to see:
- Exposure to the Bloomberg Terminal, Bloomberg API’s or Enterprise Data products
- Solid understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies
- Experience with semantic web technologies and W3C semantic standards
- Knowledge of graphing technologies and ontology languages and standards such as OWL, RDF, SKOS, and SHACL
