Session: The Rise of Deepfakes
What do you do when you can no longer trust your eyes and ears? How did deepfakes come to be, what are they, and what can we do to stop them before they influence us beyond repair? This presentation takes a deep dive into the technology behind deepfakes (“deep learning” and “fake”), which are media that take a person in an existing image or video and replace them with someone else's likeness using artificial neural networks. We will look into the history of deepfakes, how they are made, and how they are being used now in social media and society as a whole.
