Job Title: Associate Publishing Manager, Nature Masterclasses

Purpose of Role:

The Associate Publishing Manager will coordinate and support the development of the online training products, including online courses and webinars, tailored for researchers across the world.

Responsibilities

Course production

  • Support the Senior Publishing Manager to develop new course proposals

  • Support the Senior Publishing Manager to arrange and coordinate the course outline creation

  • Coordinate the commissioning and recruitment of internal (Springer Nature) and external subject matter experts, expert reviewers and user panel members

  • Coordinate the commissioning and recruitment of content, multimedia and instructional design freelancers

  • Lead the production of video content (including coordinating filming, quality control, etc.)

  • Manage the workflow for copy-editing and proofreading of content; follow best practice for QA review and support work on clearing rights and permissions

  • Where requested, support the Senior Publishing Manager in liaising with subject matter experts, instructional designers and development editors to resolve queries

  • Accurately track and record course development-related costs

  • Lead on the production and running of webinars (including commissioning of experts, preparing presentations, collating questions and communication with participants)

Wider project management

  • Create comprehensive schedules and timelines with key project dates/milestones for on-going non-course related projects

  • Support the Senior Publishing Manager in meeting project deadlines by documenting progress, prioritising tasks, mitigating risks and keeping stakeholders informed

  • Lead internal team meetings and take comprehensive notes

  • Ensure that the wider publishing team are kept on track to meet ambitious team goals

People

  • Support the development and implementation of diversity, equity & inclusion and accessibility measures for the publishing team’s contribution to the training team portfolio

Quality & customer satisfaction

  • Support the wider publishing team in ensuring that high quality standards are maintained within course content

  • Support the wider publishing team in ensuring that the training is engaging and continues to meet the diverse and changing needs of today’s researchers and customers

  • Where requested, monitor and report on established KPIs

Product strategy

  • Support the Senior Publishing Manager to create the strategy on the development of training services and new content by gathering and analysing market intelligence and competitor data 

  • Assist the Senior Publishing Manager with the piloting and implementation of new products and innovations, including those which blend live and on-demand training

  • Support in delivering tactical implementation plans to drive forward the goals of the wider researcher training team

Sales & marketing

  • Where requested, work with marketing team to create promotional product collateral

Skills

Essential:

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • A passion for editorial excellence and superb attention to detail

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment 

Desirable:

  • Numeracy and comfort creating and working with usage data analyses

  • An understanding of the needs of scientists and other researchers 

Qualifications

Desirable:      

  • Good graduate degree in the sciences or equivalent experience in publishing
