The Lead Sales Compensation Accountant is responsible for managing the accounting and reporting of sales commissions and incentives within the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of sales compensation plans, commission structures, and performance metrics. The Sales Compensation Accountant will collaborate closely with sales operations, HR, and finance teams to ensure accurate calculation, recording, and reporting of sales commissions in accordance with company policies, GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and regulatory requirements.

What you'll do
  • Process the accounting of monthly sales commissions and bonuses accurately and timely.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile sales commission expense accounts.
  • Analyze sales performance data to calculate commission accruals and adjustments.
  • Collaborate with sales operations to validate commission calculations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain documentation and support schedules for sales compensation expenses.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and disclosures related to sales compensation.
  • Monitor changes in sales compensation plans and ensure compliance with internal controls.
  • Support audits and inquiries related to sales compensation from internal and external auditors.
  • Provide guidance and support to sales managers and representatives on commission-related inquiries.

This role requires
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in accounting for sales commissions, preferably in a sales-driven organization.
  • Basic understanding of GAAP and regulatory requirements related to sales compensation (ASC 606).
  • Experience with commission calculation software (e.g., Xactly, CallidusCloud).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel for data analysis and reconciliation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism in handling confidential information.


Bonus points if you have
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and financial reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with sales performance metrics and analytics.
