Akamai Technologies, Inc. is hiring for the following role in Cambridge, MA (multiple openings): Software Engineer. Principal. Design and develop security applications, processes, and APIs that can scale to meet demands of Akamai’s widely distributed customer base. Work with architects and software engineers inside Akamai to extend current and build new security technologies, and to integrate new capabilities into the Akamai security platform. Recognize how all pieces in a distributed environment fir together, and identify potential risks that expose customers to vulnerabilities. Act as technical leader within the team, staying current with latest industry trends in application development and security threats, mentoring new and junior engineers on the team and leading development projects. Work across numerous groups to build consensus across business units and products based on extensive design and implementation experience. Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the United States. Required Qualification:

Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, Information System Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or Telecommunications Engineering, plus six (6) years of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role. Alternatively, will accept Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, Information System Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or Telecommunications Engineering, plus eight (8) years of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.

Must have: Five (5) years of experience with the following: web application development experience; developing database-backed applications; Oracle or equivalent enterprise class database; model view controller applications; Spring and REST; Linux or Unix operating systems; internet protocols and concepts such as IP, TCP, SSL, TLS, HTTP, and DNS; Hibernate; Junit; XML; SQL; scripting languages such as Perl, Python, and Unix Shell Scripts; and secure software design and architecture.

Compensation:

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from $157,643 - $238,744/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
