BloombergNEF (BNEF) is seeking a talented, highly motivated individual to join our wind analysis team in New York for an initial 7 month contract, to write new research on the transformation of the wind energy sector. Specifically, the successful candidate will undertake primary research and analysis on the US and Canadian wind sector.
You are someone with a keen interest in clean energy, and you enjoy digging deep into a topic. You develop original opinions through critical examination, and you enjoy communicating these in both writing and speech. You are a quick learner, and your quantitative skills are very strong. You are passionate about developing insights and analyzing market trends, and you have a good eye for detail. Teamwork is important to you, and you are excited by the prospect of collaborating with colleagues and clients from a wide range of backgrounds.

You will be based in our New York, working as part of a global research team at BNEF – the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data and research to decision makers leading change in the energy system. Our data-driven research helps clients stay on top of developments across the energy sector, supported by the unique depth and breadth of the Bloomberg Terminal and bnef.com platforms. Growing wind energy installations will be crucial if the world is to reach its net-zero commitments. Our team produces datasets and research on the outlook for wind demand, supply and technology and prices.

The role:
You will be covering the US and Canadian wind markets, as well as some broader wind industry trends. Together with your colleagues, you will identify topics of client interest and importance, conduct independent research, generate insightful findings, and produce written reports of publishable quality. You will collaborate with a high degree of professionalism with colleagues and clients from different cultures and countries, in person and remotely. You will develop an internal and external network of industry contacts to gather insights, identify trends and collect information. You will be working with colleagues and clients based around the world – periodic travel is expected.

We will trust you to:
• Develop expertise on the North American onshore and offshore wind markets
• Research, analyze and write about the latest developments in the sector, including policy developments, technology trends, supply chain, competitive analysis of key player strategies, and other relevant topics
• Gather, organize and analyze datasets pertaining to these topics and publish written research in English on your conclusions
• Support the production of BNEF’s industry-leading publications including Wind Turbine Market Shares, the Global Wind Market Outlook and US Clean Energy Market Outlook
• Explain your research to clients via email, telephone and in-person meetings
• Deliver presentations at industry events
• Build a reputation in industry for your insightful commentary and analysis of the sector

You need to have:
• A degree in economics, science or engineering, or a strong willingness to learn coupled with a quantitative background
• Intellectual curiosity, interest in and enthusiasm for the renewable energy industry; a desire to become a leading expert in the field
• Have fluent English and exceptional communication skills: writing (for research projects) and speaking (for presentations)
• Ability to distill and communicate complex topics to non-specialist audiences
• Ability to think critically and develop thoughtful opinions by cutting through the noise of data, finding key patterns, applying judgment to the claims of industry participants and asking insightful questions
• Good time management skills, initiative and ability to work on multiple projects at once
• Have an excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

We would love to see:
  • Experience working on data projects and using analytical tools such as SQL, GIS or Python
  • Prior experience analyzing wind markets, clean energy policies or other topics related to the power sector, whether through an internship, academic research, or prior work experience


Salary Range = 35 - 40 USD Hourly

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
