Zoe Kuyanda is Co-Founder at Girl Coders Zambia. Her fascination for technology has grown over the years and she acquired a strong set of problem-solving skills.
Zoe has previous experience working as a web developer for Radicity Brands and Girl Coders Zambia. In this role, she not only wrote intricate code but also interacted regularly with customers to help them resolve their issues with software products. Especially for the WomenTech Network, Zoe agreed to give an interview and share her story.
Are you excited to be among the speakers at the WomenTech Global Conference 2021 and what motivated you to join our community of 100 000 women in tech, minorities, and allies?
The upcoming conference is an amazing and exciting event that I am really excited to attend. This community of change makers is one that every female with the idea to pursue a career in technology should join. The enthusiastic personalities of women in this community are indeed the best tools for establishing a world that encourages female participation in tech and there by closing the gender gap that exists today. This was the biggest motivation to join the community as it lays a platform for me to be part of the process of creating for change.
Share with us about your background, your journey in tech, and what inspired you to develop your career in this direction?
My first interaction with a computer was in 2005, the year I realized how much can be done with the right skills set to create anything we set our minds to. I was 5 years old when my interest for technology grew and as years went by, it advanced with the existence of emerging trends which begun to be highly appreciated by the society. I did not have enough motivation or people to look up to then and this put me at a slow pace to achieve what I wanted for my country but this did not stop me from building on.
Who would you advise to attend the Global Conference and why?
Every woman that is looking to build a career in tech, trying to establish a tech based start up and/or is just interested in getting an open mind towards the emerging technologies to widen their problem solving capacities in their communities and countries at large will be very advantaged if they attend this conference. Any other individuals that have interest in supporting women in tech are advised to attend as they will get a hand in knowing the level at which women are pushing themselves to find their spaces in technology.
