Session: Keeping Accessibility In Mind
Are you a Front-End Software Engineer or a UX Designer? Have you ever thought about what it would be like for a user with a disability to navigate through a website?Although the Americans with Disabilities Act was officially signed in 1990, digital accessibility standards (WCAG) are continuously being pushed out industry wide. Join me for an interactive session to learn about WCAG standards that designers and developers should be following.
You will have the opportunity to hear first-hand what a screen reader sounds like as you navigate through a website. You will also learn about best practices for using color throughout your website/application.
Ensuring digital channels are accessible is of the upmost importance. It is up to our generation to not only develop and design with accessibility in mind, but also continue to teach best practices and guidelines for future generations to follow.

Bio
Katelyn Rumenik is an alumni of Florida State University and is a VP Product Owner within the Chief Technology Office at JPMorgan Chase. Before becoming a Product Owner, she spent the first eight years of her career as a Software Engineer for the company, writing code and designing solutions to meet the business needs and accessibility requirements. Throughout Katelyn’s career she has worked as an advocate for web accessibility, working with several teams to ensure their applications meet ADA standards and has presented at internal tech talks to teach employees these standards. In addition to her day job, Katelyn is also involved with College Campus Recruiting and Toastmasters within JPMorgan Chase. Katelyn currently recruits at the University of Central Florida to bring college graduates into the company’s recent college graduate software engineering program. She is also a member of Toastmasters where she currently holds the officer role of Secretary and has her Competent Communicator and Competent Leader awards within the program.Outside of JPMorgan Chase, Katelyn is a seven-year member of the Junior League of Tampa where she has held several different leadership roles; the current one being Endowment Commemorative Gift Coordinator.
