About the Role  

Springer Nature's Risk Management System is designed and monitored by our Governance, Risk & Compliance team. Due to our recent listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange we need to enhance our team and processes.  

Role Responsibilities: 

The Risk Manager will be responsible within a small team for: 

  • helping us to enhance our processes and maintain standards adequate for a company listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange 
  • identifying, analysing, describing and estimating the risks affecting the business 
  • recording risks in our global system (Workiva/WDesk) 
  • evaluating risk capacity - comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the organisation such as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors, 
  • advising and assessing performance against the organisation's 'risk appetite', i.e. the level of risk the organisation is prepared to accept 
  • reporting appropriately according to the audience, for example, to senior managers and functional heads so they understand the most significant risks, to business heads to ensure they are aware of risks relevant to their parts of the business and to individual risk owners to understand their accountability for individual risks 
  • contributing to external risk reporting to stakeholders 
  • reviewing risk policies regularly to ensure they are compliant with relevant new legislation 
  • contributing to audits of policy and compliance to standards, including liaison with internal and external auditors 
  • providing support, education and training to staff to build risk awareness within the organisation 

 Experience, skills and qualifications 
Essential 

  • Strong demonstrable experience in risk management for large company/consulting in risk management 
  • Ability to generate and deliver concise, timely reports to stakeholders, including those in senior positions 
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to apply these skills at all levels of the organisation and with key external stakeholders as required  
  • Strong work ethic and creative ability to achieve identified goals, both individually and as a team player, in a global function 
  • Anticipates issues and opportunities and responds with appropriate, risk-aware and cost-driven solutions 
  • Structured problem solver - able to logically breakdown complex and ambiguous problems into component parts and recommend pragmatic solutions 
  • Ability to use analytical skills to identify trends and themes regarding ethics & compliance risks from a wide variety of data sources and action necessary to address these 
  • Personal time management  
  • University degree and/or professional qualification essential 

Desirable 

  • Accountancy or audit qualifications an advantage 
  • German language skills are an advantage
