About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Nature Medicine team as our next Magazine Editor. Your mission will be to build upon the success of the journal’s magazine section, commissioning, editing and developing News and Opinion content that addresses the most timely and significant problems in medicine and health.
Nature Medicine magazine’s section encompasses content of different shapes and forms – such as news in brief, news features, comments, correspondences and world views, both in print and online media. You will be interacting with science writers as well as with key scientists and opinion-makers on a daily basis, identifying impactful content that is bespoken to the journal’s translational and clinical readership.
The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor and play an important role in setting the journal’s agenda and editorial voice.
To succeed in this role, you will have:

A degree in science writing or in the biomedical sciences with significant experience in writing about science and medicine for non-specialists.

Strong interest in the interface of medicine, policy and society, particularly with regards to global health, health disparities, and scientific developments with potential to improve people’s lives.

Strong work ethics and knowledge of good journalism practices.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and spoken).

Advanced English proficiency .

A good handle of social media platforms, including X and LinkedIn, as well as content usage metrics.

Be eager to travel and meet scientists and physicians worldwide, learn more about them and their research.

Be comfortable with working in a fast-paced collaborative environment, interacting with colleagues with different expertise, and taking on new challenges.

Candidates for the senior position must demonstrate prior experience in editing magazine-style content for scientific or medical publications.
This is a full-time position, located in our New York or London offices on a hybrid working model.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor: $74,000 - $80,000 | Senior Editor: $91,000 - $115,000 . The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
