About The Role
Springer Nature is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join the Research Cross-Journal Editorial Team.
This exciting position involve being part of a team of editors that will work closely — and flexibly — with the existing Nature Research Journals. Ideal candidate would be a critical thinker with a deep understanding of their subject and interests beyond, and who can think on their feet.
The main focus of these roles is to support editorial processes relating to manuscript assessment and the peer-review process; there will also be opportunities to commission, edit and write content for these journals. Successful candidates will work with different Nature Research Journals, working closely with Chief Editors and journal teams, while reporting to the Head of the Research Cross-Journal Team.
To be considered for the position, you will have:
- Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in chemistry or a closely research discipline — ideally with a strong background in organic chemistry, synthesis, homogeneous catalysis or chemical biology.
- A passion for science and a thirst to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research and technological developments, both within and beyond your speciality. (Note that extensive editorial training is offered to help new editors become comfortable with handling a broad field of research.)
- The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the nature journals from different areas of this discipline.
- Demonstrate ability and willingness to read, understand, and assess multidisciplinary research that goes beyond the core expertise.
- Excellent time-management skills in order to efficiently navigate multiple time-sensitive activities and shifting priorities.
- Be eager to interact with scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken).
These are challenging and intellectually stimulating roles that call for highly motivated individuals with excellent writing, speaking, and time-management skills; candidates should have the ability to absorb new areas quickly and must have a keen interest in the practice and communication of science.
Applicants must have a relevant PhD (or equivalent); postdoctoral experience may be an advantage but is not required. Editorial experience is also not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for a Senior Editor position.
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and can be located in our Shanghai, Beijing, Heidelberg, Berlin (Hybrid Working) offices. The candidates will be considered as they apply, therefore, early applications are encouraged.
