Position Summary
The Senior Security Engineer role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including all aspects of perimeter/edge security and providing guidance to groups about security. The Senior Security Engineer works collaboratively with all other infrastructure teams including the network, governance and risk, system administration, and corporate facilities teams. This position coordinates and manages all day-to-day operations for our firewall environment.
As part of the Corporate IT Infrastructure team, this role is responsible for the development, design, and execution of the 5-year roadmap set by senior management. This includes proactive and reactive measures to minimize all threats related to data and network security.
The person in this role will research and implement system enhancements that will improve efficiency, performance, availability, redundancy, and reliability of the system. The role will be responsible for ongoing maintenance (i.e. firmware updates), as well as for installing and configuring new hardware/software in datacenters, branch sites, and AWS/cloud environments.
A distinguished candidate will have experience with various other datacenter and cloud components, such as servers, load balancing, routing & switching, along with the technologies used to manage these devices.
Qualifications
KEY RESPONSIBITIES INCLUDE:
- Provide security infrastructure operations support for firewalls, content filtering solutions, site-to-site and remote access VPNs.
- Analyze network traffic for root cause analysis (sniffers, packet capturing, routing).
- Perform initial setup of security devices, upgrade existing devices, and implement routine changes in the environment (i.e. security policies).
- Carry out incident, change, problem, escalation management related to connectivity or security issues in the network infrastructure.
- Develop, manage, and improve how clients connect into Huron’s hosted environment.
- Support activities around cloud adoption and provide guidance on best practices for cloud enablement.
- Remediate vulnerabilities identified in the firewalls.
- Aid in policy & procedure development.
- Participate in security incident response activities by helping to identify, contain, and remediate threats to the business.
BASIC CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
TECHNICAL ACUMEN
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP and other basic network protocols like NTP/DNS/TLS/HTTP
- Strong understanding of routing protocols (i.e. BGP and OSPF)
- Strong knowledge of enterprise firewall technologies and their respective features
- Cloud/AWS experience is a plus
- Intermediate proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems.
SOFT SKILLS
- Strong verbal/written skills and the ability to effectively interface with internal business groups, operations teams, technical engineering teams, internal audit, regulators, and senior management.
- Exceptional organization and time management skills, with the ability to work under restrictions/deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Information Systems, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3+ years with hands-on experience working on Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Panorama management appliances.
- Understanding of cyber security and how security programs are developed and maintained within an organization.
- Ability to act independently with follow-through as well as a good team building skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills, and a strong customer service work ethic with ability to provide support quickly.
- Ability to remotely resolve technical issues across all time zones and clear understanding of elevated permissions.
- Ability to work flexible hours including at times nights and weekends.
