Session: Product Inclusion: Why You Need to Build WITH Not FOR
Building for a diverse and inclusive audience is a good thing, but do you know why? Is it simply to feel good about the product you ship? Did you know there are tangible business metrics that can be positively affected by intentionally prioritizing underrepresented users? In this talk, you will learn what Product Inclusion is, why it should be integral to the product development life cycle, how to make a case for it in your org or team, and some simple ways to start building inclusively.
Bio
Cindy Joung is Head of Product Inclusion at Yahoo, where she combines a decade of experience as a product manager in entertainment and media with her mission to increase equity and representation across all dimensions of diversity.
After graduating Northwestern University, she began her career in the entertainment industry, weaving from film publicity to entertainment law before landing at Whalerock Industries (f/k/a BermanBraun), where she transitioned to digital media in 2008 to launch an entertainment vertical on MSN. In 2015, she joined Aol through an acquisition and worked as a PM across several brands within the company prior to creating the Product Inclusion team in order to create inclusive and representative products for all.
Cindy is passionate about building communities and championing diversity, inclusion and belonging. She is the founder of and Global Advisor to Yahoo's Asian employee resource group and a venture Director at Gold House, a non profit collective focused on accelerating inclusive unity, representation, and success of Asian/Pacific Islanders (API).
