Who We Are
At Kyndryl, we design, build, manage and modernize the mission-critical technology systems that the world depends on every day. So why work at Kyndryl? We are always moving forward – always pushing ourselves to go further in our efforts to build a more equitable, inclusive world for our employees, our customers and our communities.
The Role
Within our Mainframe Db2 System Administration team at Kyndry, you will be a master of managing and administering the backbone of our application database infrastructure. You'll be an architect of the relational database framework, shaping the base definitions, structure, processes and documentation to ensure the long-term success of our business operations.
Your expertise will be crucial in configuring, monitoring, optimising and maintaining Db2 application databases, ensuring our systems run at peak performance.
You will be cooperatively responsible with Mainframe Db2 System Administrators for periodic monitoring, reporting & advising on compliant and best practice database user authorisations, implementing the highest standards of security to protect our valuable data from unauthorized access and external threats.
In addition, you will be a Disaster Recovery guru, developing reliable backup and recovery plans, and periodic health checks and reporting on database backups, to ensure the client's application data is always protected in the event of a failure.
This will also incorporate management of ongoing DB2 application database housekeeping (Reorg, Runstats, Load, Unload, etc) and will lean on developing your knowledge in client-specific 3rd party DB2 tools and utilities to augment your knowledge in native IBM Db2 utilities & tools.
Your technical acumen will be put to use, as you support client end users, acting on incoming issues and change requests, corresponding and working with external client application developers and their other in-house teams to provide your Db2 Subject Matter Expertise, on best practice methods and processes, recommending new product features, tools & utilities, advising on technical APARs, workarounds and fixes as they are discovered, and performing issue diagnosis, root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions as incidents occur.
Within the scope of application Db2 Databases, in conjunction with the client's application teams and Kyndryl Capacity Planning teams, you will conduct capacity monitoring, growth projections based on usage, and make pre-emptive requests with sufficient lead times, to Capacity Planning and/or relevant technical support teams for additional resourcing as required, ensuring that our system is always scalable to meet our business needs, avoiding unnecessary outages and performance bottlenecks.
You'll be a strategic partner, working closely with various teams to coordinate systematic database project plans that align with our organizational goals. Your contributions will not go unnoticed - you'll have the opportunity to propose and implement enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system, enabling us to deliver world-class services to our customers. This will require drawing on your skills of business process & workflow observation, analysis, solution design and your repertoire of scripting on mainframe and the productivity suites available on the supported client, to automate any simple repeatable processes which currently contribute to excess elapsed timeframes, and increase risk of unnecessary human error, churn, waste from rework, and potential incidents caused by excessive manual effort. Your automated solutions will require proper documentation to prevent the risk of losing human knowledge of the underlying manual process/workflow.
