I'd like to pinpoint emphathetic listening as well as part of effective communication. Active listening definitely matters. But emphathetic one deserves decent attention too. When we listen not just actively and with engagement, but when we do our best to understand what our interlocutor means and feels. We are supposed even to read between the lines in some cases. But doing that we can end up with way better understanding of our counterparts.
