Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

The Lead Systems Engineer has the responsibility to design and develop industry leading CT Scanner by delivering customer workflow, feature functionality, product quality, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, regulatory, compliance, and cost. Activities include CT feature and clinical application development, requirements definition and flow down, system architecture design and analysis, hardware and electromechanical and software components integration, modeling, FMEA development, developing/executing system verification and validation test procedures, reliability testing and supporting the problem solving and development solutions for manufacturing and customers issues.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manages product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down. Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing.

  • Own CT systems feature and clinical application development projects including technical risk retirement with systems thinking. This requires working with and leading teams with different disciplines and cross functions including engineering platform teams, quality, sourcing, marketing, manufacturing, product management, research teams, and customers.

  • Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams. Manages interface between components and execution organizations.

  • Supporting, coordinating and leading technical reviews.

  • Define system test strategy and perform hands on product integration activities

  • Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system.

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy. Supporting, coordinating and leading technical reviews.

  • Contribute to and shape system designs, and collaborate with marketing, clinical partners and luminaries for clinical application features.

  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

  • Stays up to speed on industry technologies and applies those to product development and to improve systems design practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM” majors (Physics, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • 3+ years relevant work experience

  • Electro-mechanical, hardware, and software system integrations, modeling and analysis

  • Proficient in the use of software tools for analysis and simulation (Matlab, Simulink Python, SysML)

  • Proven ability to develop timely and effective solutions for challenging design problems

  • Demonstrate ability to pursue tasks to completion

  • Broad exposure to HW/SW/Systems design, and technical depth in one or more engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, etc) and/or in Physics/Math. 

Desired Characteristics:

  • 7+ years relevant work experience

  • Master’s/PhD in in STEM” majors (Physics, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • Proficiency in Java/C/C++ programming language 

  • Experience in systems hardware related design practices including EMC and thermal

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task

  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and results orientation
