Top tips for building relationships online:

- Consider your personal brand; what are you known for and what do you want to be known for? Make your bio clear, make it personal (and therefore approachable). This helps people to start conversations with you more easily!

- Have a clear idea of who you'd like to connect with and why! This will help conversation to flow more easily. It's also important to consider how you might be able to add value to their network too.

- Don't be afraid to reach out! The more you do it, the easier it becomes. Be friendly and keep it simple.

I spend a lot of my time on LinkedIn, here's an easy initial connection message:

Events and conferences are a great place to connect because you instantly have something in common with the other attendees.

Key points:

- Have a game plan, what are you looking to get out of the event. Who do you want to meet.
- Speaker lists are typically distributed prior to the event so you can play your day to get 'in the room' with the people you really want to connect with. Don't be afraid to ask questions in the Q&A section of the talk, people will recognise your face and will potentially approach you once the talk is finished.
- Don't feel pressured to make 10 connections in one day. One meaningful connection is more valuable than hoping around 20 people and not really having any depth of conversation.
- Make sure people know how to contact you post event; share your linkedIn and socials links.
- Write notes after conversations, it means a lot when you remember things about people! It will help your follow up, post-event. It's important to nurture the relationship once the event is over.

People love a story! So keep note of all of the work you do, including the challenges!!! These are the bits people like to hear the most, because they may be experiencing something similar and would love to hear how you solved the problem they're also having.

Keeping a deck with a single slide per story/case-study can be really useful. It means you can talk about your work in a succinct way (make sure you speak to outcomes and benefits of the project).

Once you have this deck you can repurpose each story for blog-articles, social media posts, youtube vids etc.
