The provision of academic excellence awards in STEM has the potential to play a significant role in closing the gender gap in technology by encouraging more women to strive for and excel in these fields. However, while they offer recognition and can boost confidence and visibility for women in STEM, these awards alone are insufficient to solve the complex issue of gender disparity. Real change requires systemic efforts to address biases, provide equitable opportunities, and foster a supportive environment for women throughout their educational and professional journeys in STEM.
