Session: Delivery on your team goals during uncertain and stressful times
Engineering teams main goal is delivering on features to meet their company goals. Uncertainty that engineering managers and engineers leader deal with were always there and they had many techniques to deal with these uncertainties. COVID-19 added hurdles like communication between team members became unintuitive, new members of the team are not easy to onboard, and brainstorming ideas is much harder. The talk will address the challenges and share some solutions to help leaders add some order back to their teams and have some certainty in an uncertain time.
Bio
Machine Learning and engineering leader who is passionate about building technologies that delight users. Samah is currently working at Amazon, building and managing a backend and machine learning engineering team. Samah, as well, invests and advises venture backed companies. Before Amazon, she co-founded Transpose, a data management company, and took the company from an idea on paper to building out the team and launching Internationally across major platforms.
Samah earned her PhD degree from Virginia Tech’s Computer Science department in 2014. While doing her PhD, she worked on NSF (National Science Foundation), NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities), and IARBA funded projects focused on Machine Learning and Big Data. Here research papers were published in IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), ACM (Association of Computing Professionals), and Elsevier Journals and Conferences.
She is an active volunteer and an advocate in many diversity initiatives that are focused on empowering women and other diversity groups in Science and Engineering fields.
