Short Summary of the Division

Springer Healthcare IME is the independent medical education (IME) unit of Springer Healthcare, which is part of Springer Nature. The IME team design, produce and publish independent medical education content to fulfil unmet needs in the required therapy area. The programs are funded by global educational grants and often accredited, but are entirely conceived, designed and delivered by Springer Healthcare IME and our enlisted expert faculty, in line with CME good practice.

Reports to: Principal Medical Education Writer, Independent Medical Education (IME)

Location: London, UK (hybrid; min 2 days in the office/week)

Position summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Identifying and verifying unmet professional practice gaps and learning objectives within the clinical landscape when responding to RFPs, educational grant applications, and for Springer Healthcare IME initiatives

  • Developing and delivering scientific and clinical independent medical education programmes based on needs assessments that are compliant with good CME practice guidelines, where appropriate

  • Identifying, recruiting, and building good relationships with KOLs for independent medical education programmes

  • Providing on-site scientific support for educational events and, where appropriate, being a representative for Springer Healthcare IME at funder meetings

  • Leading the content creation for IME programmes, in liaison with internationally renowned clinical KOLs, and having oversight of all editorial aspects of their assigned portfolio of independent medical education projects

Key responsibilities

  • Educational strategy and programme development

  • Develop independent medical education programmes through rigorous needs assessments, identification of professional practice gaps, and definition of learning objectives

  • Identify and build relationships with KOLs within therapy areas to advise on programme design and content development

  • Be able to gain a working knowledge of a novel therapy area quickly to enable constructive discussions with KOLs

  • Be involved in tasks and initiatives outside of traditional editorial to fulfill wider IME strategy goals  Lead on the creation of content for IME programmes

  • Editorial work

  • Accurately and effectively brief KOLs to ensure content delivered is appropriate and on time

  • Write, edit, data check and proofread all content for projects to a high level of scientific and clinical accuracy, flow, and consistency to ensure high-quality deliverables

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of IME projects

  • Advise on appropriate formats and design for educational initiatives in order to meet identified learning gaps and maximise learner engagement with the content

  • Keep up to date with and integrate best practice instructional design concepts into the design and delivery of programmes

  • Attend live events (face-to-face and virtual) as the Springer Healthcare IME scientific representative

  • Maintain a good working knowledge of therapy areas of interest Be point of contact for scientific enquiries

  • Ensure adherence to budgets and deadlines

  • Business development

  • Provide valued scientific and clinical input into business proposals and new business initiatives

  • Where appropriate, attend funder and KOL meetings as the Springer Healthcare IME scientific representative

  • Other general duties

Skills/experience

Essential

  • Life science degree

  • Medical writing experience within the Medical Communications/Medical Education industry

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Pro-active, resourceful and a good team-player

  • Adaptable and willing to take on new and different responsibilities as they arise

  • Fluent in English, written and spoken

Desired

  • Higher degree

  • Live events experience, both face-to-face and digital events

  • Experience/knowledge of instructional design or storyboarding

  • Experience of liaising with international clinical KOLs

  • Experience within or knowledge of the IME/CME industry
