The Commercial PC Firmware Engineering Team provides the foundation for HP's security and manageability solutions as well as unique features to delight our customers.
As a firmware engineer in the BIOS group, you will use C programming language to design, develop and debug UEFI system firmware to provide innovative solutions to our customers. You will work in an agile, exciting, high profile and fast paced environment. You will work with the latest unreleased hardware and software technologies and will have excellent opportunities to learn new cutting edge technologies.
Ideally, you have a background in software, firmware or hardware. You must be experienced in C programming and interested in low-level code development. You must have solid troubleshooting skills and a strong drive to reach root cause on difficult technical issues. You need to be team oriented, innovative, possess a strong work ethic, be a self-starter, be quality conscious, and have excellent communication and technical skills.
Responsibilities:
Uses C programming language to designs enhancements, updates, and programming changes for portions and subsystems of firmware, including DSP, embedded code, EFI drivers, EFI applications and BIOS/UEFI.
Analyzes design and determines coding, programming, and integration activities required based on general objectives and knowledge of overall architecture of product or solution.
Writes and executes complete testing plans, protocols, and documentation for assigned portion of application; identifies and debugs, and creates solutions for issues with code and integration into application architecture.
Participates as a member of an agile scrum team of other firmware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for moderately complex products.
Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding firmware design status, project progress, and issue resolution.
Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
Typically 4-6 years experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience with C programming language
Experience with firmware design tools and languages
Firmware and hardware design knowledge
Self-starter with a quality for passion
Strong problem solving skills.
Firmware testing methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.
Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
Agile experience is helpful
