Role overview
A key focus for the company is to become a data-driven organisation so that business decisions can be made quickly, based on solid, reliable data. The purpose of the Data Excellence Manager role is to put in place the policies, processes, and technology that will enable a data-driven culture.

In this key role, you will report to the Sr. Director of SUSE Commercial IT and you will lead the Data Excellence team, which includes 4 employees located across Europe and North America, as well as an out-sourced Data Quality team. You will lead the team in the execution of data governance policy and standards to ensure that the quality of the company’s data is accurate and available for those that have an appropriate business need for the data.  The future responsibilities of the team may change as the Policy is further rolled out across the organisation and regulatory requirements for data in the industry increases.

What you’ll do
The role will be varied, leading the day-to day execution of data quality efforts while driving the strategic efforts to transform the company into a data-driven organisation. The team you lead has wide responsibilities ranging from administering the CRM system (as the master data system of record) to setting data standards and policies that will support data quality throughout the organisation. Team members act as the liaison between Field Sales Ops and the IT team while maintaining the data quality within the CRM system with the goal of triaging and resolving issues in data quality and improving accessibility and availability to internal data consumers.

At the same time, as the Data Excellence Manager, you will have ownership of the SUSE Data Governance Policy and supporting standards and processes. You will work closely with and influence data owners, data stewards, and data stakeholders throughout the organisation. Areas of focus are also likely to be varied, but will include Master data sources, reference data, and transactional data. Success will be achieved as the business is able to rely upon data to make accurate and timely decisions and the data-driven culture becomes a competitive advantage.

What you can expect

  • Provide leadership on structure, technology, and processes needed to enable a data-driven culture throughout the organisation.
  • Lead a team of data analysts, coverage analysts, and data quality specialists who are dedicated to enabling a data-driven organisation.
  • Maintain proper balance between maintaining current data quality standards and availability while implementing new processes and technologies to take the company to the next level.
  • Provide business and systems analysis expertise to Business Units where required on our core metadata platform Salesforce.com.
  • Develop control structures within our platform to ensure that the accuracy and quality of data in our metadata platform is fit for purpose.
  • Ensure the ability for the company to incorporate data and employees from companies that are acquired, while maintaining data quality and accessibility.
  • Manage data issue tracking, in particular those that are critical or aged.
  • Complete all daily operational controls on Salesforce to ensure the organisation’s metadata is complete and current. Escalate potential Data Governance issues as a result.
  • Support data stakeholders, ensuring all deadlines are met and reports are completed.
  • Manage other team members and keep track of team deliverables monthly and quarterly.
  • Identify risks associated with the lineage of the data with respect to Data Governance best practise.
  • Ensure the Data Governance documentation are always up to date; propose and implement enhancements where appropriate.
  • Create Data Quality training decks and various other materials as and when required.
  • Provide training and support to business data stewards with the maintenance of the SUSE Data Quality requirements and Data Governance processes.
  • Act as an ambassador for data excellence across SUSE.
  • Keep up with changes in the industry and working with peers and colleagues within SUSE to ensure an appropriate framework is in place to meet future needs.

Who you are

Essential Skills:

  • Previous experience working in data management and an understanding of data governance practices
  • Good understanding of Data Governance enabling technologies
  • Demonstrable abilities to lead a team across diverse geographical locations who serve a global organisation
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and to navigate complex decision points
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to promote culture change across the organisation for Data Excellence
  • Dynamic “can do” attitude with a strong desire to improve and make things happen
  • Experience developing and producing Stakeholder reporting
  • A genuine interest in how organizations tick with an analytical mind-set and the ability to review and interrogate data

  • Good experience in desktop analytical and formatting skills
  • Experience in facilitating workshops employing different techniques to lead participants to consensus
  • Previous experience working with Salesforce.com
