Recognizing women in STEM through academic excellence awards is a step in the right direction for increasing visibility and providing much-needed role models. Nonetheless, this step alone is insufficient to bridge the gender gap in technology. It's a component of a broader strategy that should include education reform, workplace equality initiatives, and consistent efforts to eradicate the social stigmas that dissuade women from pursuing careers in tech.
