⚡️ Save the date: Women in Tech Global Conference 2023 will take place on May 9-12!
Tell us about your experience as a Women in Tech Global Conference 2022 speaker.
This year was my first experience as a speaker at the Women in Tech Global Conference and I had a wonderful time getting to know fellow women in tech from across the globe. I loved having the opportunity to share my story of being a minority woman in tech and how I started my career in Quality Assurance.
The virtual format of the conference this year was really nice and we had multiple ways of being able to connect with other attendees and speakers. I left the conference with a lot of new connections with other amazing women and I’m excited to be able to hopefully speak again next year!
What is your favorite thing about working in tech?
One thing that I have always loved about working in tech is that every single day is different. Technology is so fast-paced and is constantly changing and I love being a part of a career that allows me to continually learn. Nothing ever becomes boring, because each day is different. I have also had the experience of working in a lot of different tech roles in my 19-year career including software training, software support, technical writing, and quality assurance which is another thing I love about working in tech and being able to work in various roles within the same industry.
What advice (and tips) would you give to women who want to start a tech career?
I always share a few pieces of advice and tips with women who want to start a tech career.
The first one is to be confident in what you want to achieve and how to get there. If you have a drive and a passion for breaking into tech and the right skills to do so, having the confidence will help to get you started.
The second tip I always like to give is to stay true to who you are as you enter into a male-dominated field like tech. Don’t let anyone make you feel that you cannot achieve the same goals as your counterparts in this industry.
The last tip I give is to not be afraid to challenge norms and speak up, this is really important and will help to get you in the door to a tech career.
Who would you recommend to join the WomenTech Network?
