Session: Leveraging Data and Technology to Bring Efficiency to Healthcare
In the ever-changing technology industry, it has become increasingly clear one sector in particular is falling behind in adopting the latest advancements - healthcare. Today, the healthcare experience for both providers and patients is laborious - from providers spending hours filling out forms in outdated systems and patching various third party software, to patients losing time on the phone to make appointments and filling out their information numerous times on paperwork. The healthcare stack needs re-engineering to automate many of the tasks physicians lose time on, ultimately losing time they could spend with patients.
In this talk, Claire Hough, Chief Technology Officer of Carbon Health, will outline how healthcare providers can use technology to increase efficiency and well-informed decision-making. Leveraging Carbon Health’s proprietary system as an example, Claire will explain how the integration of technology frees up providers’ time that would otherwise be constricted due to laborious paperwork, allowing them to deliver the best care possible and simplifying patient interactions - ultimately improving care outcomes. For example, the company’s app which helps patients making appointments and managing their health has been downloaded by 80% of Carbon Health patients while at the beginning of the pandemic, only one in six had the app on their mobile phones. Claire will also share the steps she took to expand Carbon Health’s technology team amidst the pandemic while simultaneously leading the software buildout that enabled Carbon Health’s ability to transform testing and vaccines initiatives in major cities. The software notably allowed Carbon Health to support the City of Los Angeles vaccinations efforts - ultimately, Carbon Health delivered 1.5 million vaccines through this program. She will conclude by discussing the company’s care model and how they’re developing it with their mission in mind: make high quality healthcare accessible to all.
