The Collections Management and Acquisition Team is a division within the Publishing Performance & Intelligence group, providing expertise and dedicated resources to support the growth of commissioned content across the SN Journal portfolio.
The Managing Editor will work with commissioning editors, publishers, external editors and our operational partners to organise and manage collections on behalf of key parts of the SN Journals portfolio. They will be responsible for the project management of multiple live collections and will work closely with our operational teams to provide an enhanced level of oversight for commissioned articles.
Increasing commissioned content is an essential part of our strategy to grow our Springer Nature journal portfolios and this role ensures we can do this at scale while maintaining an excellent level of quality and author service.
Responsibilities:

Project management of live collections, including performance reporting (content flow and delivery, turnaround times, general submission/publication performance)

Support of Commissioning Editors, Guest Editors, and Authors with queries throughout submission, peer-review, and publication processes

Engagement with the Marketing department, Production teams, Editorial, and other internal stakeholders

Contact point for Guest Editors throughout the collection

Monitoring of content flow and delivery against collection submission window

Responsible for filtering of MS and general oversight that excellent peer review is in place for commissioned content

With the Editorial Support Advisor team contribute to robust workflow documentation to be used across all portfolios
Experience:
-
Experience of journal publishing workflows, specifically around submit to accept, is highly desirable, though graduates looking to begin their publishing career will also be considered and additional training/support given

Good understanding of open access publishing, academic journals, and publishing ethics & integrity

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written and in-person/calls, with strong written & spoken English language

Good administrative and organisational skills

Has a sound understanding of the balance between operational efficiency and editorial rigour, and capability to multi-task
Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree minimum
This role is based in our London King's Cross office on a hybrid working basis with 2 days a week in the office required.
