Over the years we have seen the role of Product managers evolve. From a technical role to product managers now from various backgrounds and experiences ranging from Business, UX and more. While the traditional tech /software companies continue to foster a "tech product" mindset, we see there is a shift. Mainly in retail- we now are seeing hybrid product managers. They think differently, they understand the business better and are SME’s in their domain with deep knowledge about their product and how it works. But, is there a downside? Let’s explore.

Sabrina Ratheekan is a Director, Product Management in Walmart Canada leading leading enterprise technology team. This team manages enterprise level applications and systems supporting finance , HR , legal, compliance and supply chain teams, improving productivity and speed. Sabrina has been in Product management for over 13 years working in Telecommunication and retail primarily. Her Product Journey started in the Telecommunication Industry launching mobile commerce based solutions to cater to the needs of growing economies. Denise Wallace has been leading technology strategic initiatives and transformational programs for over 15 years. Prior to joining Walmart, she held various IT enterprise roles at a high-tech company where she was recognized for her leadership in operations and service Delivery. Denise enjoys partnering closely with business stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes for the company. She values an open collaborative team environment and has a passion for continuous improvement. Denise holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from university of Waterloo.
