Gartner predicts over 25 billion Internet of Things (IoT), or connected devices, by 2021. While IoT opens the door for innovative new approaches and services, it also presents new cybersecurity risks.From our analysis of 1.2 million IoT devices over the past two years, we discovered many vulnerabilities including 98% of IoT traffic is unencrypted. Medical devices security can mean life or death for patients, we demonstrated in our research lab that we can hack through an infusion pump and change the dosage of medication into patient’s body.
In this talk, we will cover the current state of IoT security, top IoT threats, why IoT security should be at the top of mind for all enterprises, and opportunities using Machine Learning and Cloud to secure IoT devices.

Dr. May Wang was the Co-founder, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and board member of Zingbox, which was acquired by Palo Alto Networks in 2019 for its security solutions to Internet of Things (IoT).Before Zingbox, May was a Principal Architect in the Cisco CTO office driving new technology initiatives. Her algorithms have been deployed in multiple Cisco’s best-selling products. May also served on the advisory boards of multiple VC firms and tech companies.
May has been the recipient of numerous awards including Silicon Valley Women of Influence, Female CxO Trailblazers Award, and several Stevie Awards. She received her Ph.D. from Stanford University in Electrical Engineering.
