In the dynamic and challenging world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), women have historically faced obstacles and inequalities that have hindered their participation and advancement. However, in recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of diversity in these fields, and a number of initiatives are underway to empower girls and women in STEM. One of the keys to achieving this is to provide leadership opportunities that allow them to grow, learn and excel in an environment that is becoming increasingly competitive.

In my personal experience, I was challenged to find opportunities that complemented my undergraduate studies in electromechanical engineering. Despite my passion for technology, I found it difficult to find organizations or volunteer positions that were specifically related to my area of interest. However, instead of being discouraged by the initial difficulties, I decided to take action and actively search social networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn, where I found a vibrant community of people related to the technology field in different areas. It was within these groups and organizations that I found leadership opportunities that, although not directly aligned with my specialty in electromechanical engineering, provided me with the perfect platform to grow and learn. I immersed myself in diverse technology projects, where I shared knowledge and experiences with others passionate about the field. These opportunities not only allowed me to develop new technical and leadership skills, but also helped me build strong networking with people who shared my interests and career aspirations.

As I became more active in these communities and gained leadership experience, I began to stand out and be recognized for my contributions to the technology field. This visibility opened up new leadership opportunities for me in organizations nationally and even globally. I actively participated in the IEEE Branch of my university, where I held leadership roles that allowed me to organize events, lead projects, and represent my institution in international competitions and conferences.

In addition to my participation in the IEEE Branch, I collaborated in events and programs covering various technological aspects, from hackathons to conferences on artificial intelligence and robotics. Thanks to my leadership experience and extensive knowledge of the technology sector, I was able to contribute significantly to these projects and events, while broadening my horizons and developing new interpersonal and project management skills.

Providing leadership opportunities for girls in STEM is critical to fostering their participation and growth in these fields. By giving them the chance to lead projects, events and organizations, we not only build their confidence and skills, but also provide them with a space where they can excel and make a real difference. In addition, these leadership experiences allow them to build a strong network and access new opportunities inside and outside of the technology field.

In conclusion, my journey in search of leadership opportunities in STEM has been an enriching experience that has allowed me to grow professionally and personally. Through networking, active participation in technology communities, and leadership in diverse projects, I have been able to expand my knowledge and open new doors in my career. By offering similar opportunities to other girls interested in STEM, we can build a more inclusive and diverse future in these fields, where all voices have the opportunity to be heard and valued.

It is important to emphasize that while it can be complicated to find leadership roles in STEM, it is critical to teach girls, young women, and women that opportunities are available to those who seek them out, research them, and connect with the right people. Mentoring plays a crucial role in this process, as someone who guides and mentors can provide invaluable guidance and support on the path to STEM leadership. In addition, it is essential to constantly prepare to meet this challenge, as it may seem overwhelming at first, but with time and dedication, everything flows more naturally. From establishing a solid foundation in technical knowledge to developing communication and leadership skills, each step in this journey contributes to building strong networking and becoming a source of inspiration for future generations of girls in STEM. Being part of the community of women leading in STEM is not only about achieving personal success, but also about opening doors and paving the way for others who are starting their own journey in this exciting field.
